Exposure ProtectionBest for: Cold water diving (12-20°C)$300-$450

Our Rating

8/10

The Henderson Thermoprene Pro 5mm delivers professional-grade warmth and 250% stretch neoprene at a mid-range price. After 40+ cold-water dives, the double-glued seams, Aqua Silk lining, and bombproof construction make it feel like a wetsuit costing $200 more.

Pros

  • 250% stretch neoprene provides exceptional mobility for a 5mm suit
  • Double-glued AND double-sewn seams minimize water flushing and maximize durability
  • Aqua Silk lining makes the suit dramatically easier to put on and take off
  • 10-year limited warranty — reflects genuine confidence in build quality
  • Excellent sizing range including tall, short, and plus sizes for proper fit

Cons

  • Back-zip design — some divers prefer front/chest zip for independent donning
  • No internal thermal lining found on some premium suits (adds warmth at cost of flexibility)
  • Zipper requires care during rinsing to prevent salt crystal buildup

First Impressions

Pulling the Henderson Thermoprene Pro out of the box, the first thing you notice is the fabric. It's soft — almost plush — and stretches dramatically more than any 5mm wetsuit I've ever worn. The Aqua Silk lining on all interior panels lives up to the hype: this suit slides on and off way easier than any neoprene has a right to. No more wrestling matches on the dive deck after a cold dive.

I put this suit through 40+ cold-water dives in conditions ranging from 15°C Japanese coastal waters to 18°C California kelp forests. Here's how it held up.

Warmth & Thermal Protection

The 5mm neoprene is thick enough for water temps down to about 12-13°C for most divers. The double-glued AND double-sewn seams (on both interior and exterior) minimize water flushing significantly. On a 45-minute dive in 15°C water, I stayed comfortably warm throughout — no cold spots developing at the seams, no sudden cold water flushing through.

The self-sealing spine pad is a nice touch — it creates an extra barrier at the back zipper, which is traditionally the weakest point for water entry on back-zip suits. I noticed significantly less water seepage around the zipper compared to my previous wetsuit.

Flexibility & Comfort

The 250% stretch neoprene is genuinely game-changing for a 5mm suit. I had full range of motion in my shoulders and arms — no binding when reaching for a tank valve or pulling a camera rig. The DuraTex stretch knee pads are ergonomically shaped and provide real abrasion protection without restricting leg movement.

The anatomical patterning means the suit contours to your body rather than being a generic tube of neoprene. The collar adjusts comfortably without gaping, and the suit stays in place without riding up or creating uncomfortable bunching behind the knees.

Donning & Doffing

The Aqua Silk lining makes this the easiest 5mm wetsuit I've ever put on. Instead of the usual struggle, the fabric glides over your skin. The YKK #10 zipper with stainless steel slider operates smoothly — I never had it stick or jam, even after saltwater exposure.

Sizing & Fit

Henderson's sizing is excellent for a wide range of body types. Their size range runs from XS to 6XL in men's, 4-24 in women's, including tall and short options. The suit is patterned in the USA based on decades of fit data, and it shows — it fits more naturally than many off-the-rack suits.

10-Year Warranty

A 10-year limited warranty on a wetsuit is almost unheard of. It reflects Henderson's confidence in the build quality. After 40+ dives showing zero signs of seam separation, zipper failure, or neoprene degradation, I understand why they're confident.
